It's a classic dessert that always raises a smile when it's on the menu.

It's the sort of thing you'd see contestants on the Great British Bake off attempt to make, while Paul Hollywood stares at them intently.

But it's fair to say lemon meringue pie isn't the best dessert to attempt if you're a beginner to baking.

Or in fact, have just recently discovered where your kitchen is located during lockdown.

So when poor amateur baker Terry enthusiastically posted a photo of his attempt in a food rating group, it attracted some very tough comments.

He shared a snap of his unusual looking pie in the Rate My Plate Group on Facebook, where members are known for their scathing reviews.

And people did not hold back their views on his baked goods.

One person admitted: "I thought it was a Camembert under a baked bread ? How wrong I was … I’m sure it tasted lovely well done."

Another joked: "This is a pure abomination, what is going on??"

A third blasted: "Sweet Holy Hell! Which Lovecraft nightmare did you dream up to come up with this concoction?

"If evil was a food, this would be it."

A fourth quipped: "While most people pass down family recipes over generations, Terry's family just passes down the same pie."

But others had kinder words for Terry and his dish.

One woman commented: "That looks lovely and my mouth is watering as I imagine the taste of your Lemon Meringue Pie, yes the lemon could be firmer but it's not going to spoil the taste."

Another added: "Looks like the lemon filling was not set properly and the meringue went on while the filling was hot. Better luck next time."

Meanwhile, a mum sparked a debate this week after discovering that her child was having sugar sprinkled on his cereal at breakfast club.

The anonymous woman said she was "so cross" after discovering that a worker at the breakfast club was adding it to his Shreddies, as she had previously stopped him from eating Coco Pops there.

Her comments sparked a debate with mums divided over whether she should stop it or not.
