A dad who offered to help his son with his homework was left completely baffled.

After a tough year adapting to school closures and learning how to work from home, the doting dad was worried about his son's stress levels during the first year of his A-Levels.

So he wanted to see if there was anything he could do to take the strain off a little.

But when he saw what he had to contend with, he instantly regretted his decision – the combination of numbers and words left him stumped.

He shared a snap of the question in the group Family Lockdown Tips & Ideas, in the hope other parents might feel the same way.

Can you work it out?

One person joked: "What language is this?"

Another wrote: "Haha just showed this to my son laughing he said what sin, cos and tan! Mum, it’s the 3 simples functions on a calculator everyone knows that ….. okayyyyyyy …. whatever!!"

"Provide him drinks, snacks, breaks, a shoulder to cry on, and plenty of encouragement" suggested a third.

On the other hand, a few joked that the question was as confusing as what 2020 has been.

And while a couple of others couldn't even begin to work out what kind of question they were looking at, it was later revealed to be trigonometry.
