This Morning fans were left speculating over the real reason for Holly Willoughby's disappearance from the show today.

Holly, 39, was replaced by Alison Hammond on the show as she joined Phillip Schofield, surprising viewers today.

Her disappearance was eventually oddly explained as her "having a well-deserved day off", which left some fans raising their eyebrows.

Unsurprisingly, viewers took to Twitter to speculate that that wasn't the only reason, with some suggesting she could be self-isolating, while others reckoned it was to do with Ruth and Eamonn's axe from the show.

At the weekend, the Mirror revealed that the much-loved couple had been axed from their Friday slot after 14 years.

The pair will be replaced by Alison and X Factor host Dermot O'Leary, while Ruth and Eamonn will only cover Holly and Phil during the holidays.

One tweeted: "#ThisMorning odd that Holly has a “day off” yesterday she was talking about doing guess the gadget, Covid, self isolating????? #justsaying."

While another commented: "#ThisMorning Holly Willoughby works 4 hours a day, 4 days a week, doesn't drive so is driven into work everyday and is worth beteeen £15m and £20m and @thismorning claims she deserves a day off?? total bulls***. just an excuse to cover the real reason why she isn't in."

A third wrote: "No way is Holly just having a 'well deserved day off' Yesterday Phil said him and Holly was playing guess the gadget tomorrow so something has happened either way, YES ALISON #ThisMorning."

"Anyone else thinks Holly has quit? #ThisMorning," another suggested.

One commented: "So holly is just having a day off somethings not right here #ThisMorning."

Alison , who was recently confirmed as one of the stars replacing Eamonn and Ruth on Fridays, made a surprise appearance on the show today.

Introducing the show today, Alison said: "It's Alison who's standing in for Holly, who's having a well-deserved day off today."

While another questioned: "Where’s Holly? #ThisMorning."
