I'm A Celebrity star Ant McPartlin mimed running from the police in an awkward joke two years after his drink-driving conviction.

Ant and Dec were doing a live link on last night's show when Dec fluffed his lines and accidentally said they were expecting a visit from the police.

Ant, 44, yelled "What?" and mimed running away as his co-host attempted to rectify his blunder.

The link started with Ant saying: "Before the break we saw Hollie and Giovanna successfully complete the first castle coin challenge, Eat Your Words."

Dec, 44, then said: "Which means it's time for another police… police?"

"What?" yelled Ant as he grabbed his co-host's shoulder and mimed preparing to do a runner.

Dec then went on: "Police! It's time for another visit from the police. Not that we've had a visit from the police already.

"Everything's all above board here."

The gag comes more than two years after Ant was arrested by police over a car crash in West London in March 2018.

He was later convicted of being intoxicated behind the wheel and fined £86,000 – Britain's highest-ever penalty for drink-driving.

Ant went on to take a break from showbiz and stepped away from his presenting roles, including his stint on Britain's Got Talent and I'm A Celebrity.

For the 2018 series, bosses drafted in ITV favourite Holly Willoughby to replace Ant for the stint in Australia.

She was adamant she was just keeping his seat warm while he was off, and Ant returned the following year.

He's continued hosting the series and is currently filming it in Wales with co-host Dec and a cast of celebrities including Giovanna Fletcher, Hollie Arnold, Shane Richie and Vernon Kay.
