VAR outrage as new angle appears to show refs used WRONG frame to rule out Ajax goal vs Chelsea

VAR has sparked yet another outrage as a new angle has appeared to show that referees used the WRONG frame to rule out Ajax's goal against Chelsea.

Quincy Promes saw his first-half strike controversially chalked off after he was adjudged to have been offside.

Substitute Michy Batshuayi later came off the bench to make it a double-blow for the Eredivisie side as Chelsea ran out 1-0 winners.

At the time of Promes converting Hakim Ziyech's cross-shot, it looked for all the world it was a legitimate goal.

Replays then appeared to prove the Holland international was onside – until VAR drew a "line" across the defence, with Promes' toe just beyond last defender Kurt Zouma.

But now beIN Sports have claimed match officials could have used a later frame and the Dutch star may be right to feel harshly done by.

They tweeted two pictures – one of the ball a split second after leaving Ziyech's left foot and the other of the ball being played.

In the original VAR grab, Ziyech is out of shot, with Promes' foot in the offside position.

But from a zoomed out version, posted by beIN Sports, that would appear to be the frame AFTER the ball was played across.

In the frame where the ball is being played, Promes' foot can be seen in line – or even behind – that of Zouma's.

Even Chelsea fans couldn't believe their luck, as they took to Twitter to empathise with Ajax's supporters.

The goal changed the course of the game, with Chelsea going on to exert their dominance.

Callum Hudson-Odoi and Tammy Abraham failed to break the deadlock, despite having chances, before Batshuayi's late intervention.

And the Belgian hero would go on to have his balls tickled by Jorginho in a truly bizarre celebration.
