The nation ranked 62 in the world are bottom of qualifying Group A without a win from their seven matches.
2 Bulgaria's racist fans could be in England for the Euro 2020 finals next summer
They boast a shocking goal difference of -12 having drawn three and lost four of their matches, including the 6-0 drubbing by England on Monday.
But unbelievably, thanks to Uefa’s mind-boggling play-off system formulated from standings at the Nations League, they still have a route of getting to next summer’s tournament.
The permutations are staggering.
But depending on which teams qualify for Euro 2020 directly, Bulgaria could face Scotland in a "Path C" play-off next March.

If Bulgaria defeated the Scots and then won the final, however unlikely given the state of their team, they would end up going into the Euro 2020 finals group which will stage games at Glasgow’s Hampden Park and Wembley next June.
So, Bulgaria would be in England’s group which would again be another potential flash-point with the fans.
Equally, Bulgaria could be put into a more difficult play-off in March and a "Path A" semi-final.
That would see them go up against a much stronger team like Iceland or Switzerland – so they would be certain to lose.
Current Euro 2020 playoff permutations
Path A: Switzerland, Iceland, Bulgaria/Israel/Romania*
Path B: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Wales, Slovakia, Northern Ireland
Path C: Scotland, Norway, Serbia, Bulgaria/Israel/Romania*
Path D: Georgia, North Macedonia, Kosovo, Belarus
*Uefa say: "In the current scenario, a draw would decide which of Bulgaria, Israel or Romania would fill the empty slot in Path C, and which two would go into Path A."

Meanwhile, Bulgaria's FA chief, Borislav Mikhailov, has dramatically resigned after his country's night of racist shame against England.
Bulgaria Prime Minister Boyko Borisov demanded Mikhailov step down this morning after fans racially abused Three Lions stars last night – and Raheem Sterling backed the calls.
Now, the PM has got his wish, with Mikhailov quitting after a section of home fans performed sick monkey chants and Nazi salutes in Sofia.
