Man Utd have the highest wage bill ever reported by Premier League club despite struggles under Solskjaer

MANCHESTER UNITED have the highest wage bill EVER reported by a Premier League club – despite their awful form under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The struggling Old Trafford club spend an outrageous £332million a year – around £6.5m-a-week – on player wages alone.

MAN UTD – £332m

LIVERPOOL – £264m

MAN CITY – £260m

CHELSEA – £244m

ARSENAL – £223m

SPURS – £148m

But despite the big spending, United are in the midst of their worst start to a league season in 30 years – already 15 points behind leaders and arch-rivals Liverpool.

That sky-high tally has grown by £100m in the last three years alone – with the likes of Alexis Sanchez taking in £505,000-a-week by himself.

United are still lumbered with £385,000 per week on the Chilean, despite shipping him off on loan to Inter Milan.

And in a desperate bid to cling on to David De Gea, United threw a £375,000 weekly pay-packet his way.

Paul Pogba is another top-earner at the club, pocketing £290,000 per week at Old Trafford, according to figures from Swiss Ramble.

Meanwhile, the report shows Liverpool (£264m per year), Manchester City (£260m), Chelsea (£244m), Arsenal (£223m) and Tottenham (£148m) are all spending considerably less than United.

Man Utd have struggled to compete ever since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.

But it's not simply an issue with players – as Fergie famously got every last drop of talent out of his squads.

In 2012, going into the Scottish legend's final year, United's wage bill was only third highest in the country, behind Manc City and Chelsea.

But since 2013, United are now on to manager No4 and appear to simply be trying to throw money at the problem in a bid to get back to the top.

Evidently it's not working, with the club a lowly 12th in the Premier League standings, most-recently losing 1-0 away to Newcastle.
