Atalanta fined just £9,000 after fans aimed racist abuse at Fiorentina star Dalbert

THE ITALIAN FA have once again made a mockery of the level of racist abuse aimed at stars in Serie A by fining Atalanta just £9,000 for discriminatory chants aimed at Fiorentina's Dalbert.

In the same report, the league announced that Roma will be forced to shell out £13,444 after one of their staff applauded in a referee's face.

Additionally, Juventus have been sanctioned to the same degree as Atalanta for fan behavior – with their supporters penalised for pointing a laser towards players and officials on the pitch.

Fiorentina defender Dalbert, 26, was forced to ask the referee to halt a clash at the Stadio Ennio Tardini last month after he was the target of sick racist chants.

Midway through his sides 2-2 draw with Atalanta, public warnings were made to supporters, threatening to abandon the match if the abuse failed to stop – a concern which was met with boos and whistles.

As a result, a judge has fined the club £9k, with Roma boss Paulo Fonseca receiving a two-game touchline ban in Serie A for insulting officials.

The Giallorossi were also charged £4,444 more than Atalanta after one of their fitness staff applauded in a ref's face with an "aggressive attitude".

KICK IT OUT

Dalbert's abuse is just the latest of several high-profile accounts of fans racially targeting players in Italy this season.

Former Manchester United star Romelu Lukaku was subjected to monkey taunts from Cagliari fans on his Serie A debut, with supporters from his new club Inter Milan defending their rivals.

And an Italian TV pundit was sacked for claiming live on a show that opposition sides should give the Belgian "ten bananas" to distract him.

Similar incidents involving Cagliari abusing Moise Kean, Blaise Matuidi and Sulley Muntari in the past couple of years were also swept under the rug.

Italy legend Leonardo Bonucci even said Everton starlet Kean was "50/50" responsible when fans rained monkey chants down on him following a goal for Juventus last season.

Lazio owner Claudio Lotito has also claimed that the derogatory shouts are not always racist – because they have been aimed at "normal" people with "white skin".

Roma meanwhile were praised for naming and shaming a vile racist after he sent abusive comments to defender Juan Jesus on Instagram.
