Man City squad trolled after wearing Laporte shirts in Dinamo Zagreb warm-up as fans blast ‘he’s not dead’

MANCHESTER CITY have been trolled online after their players wore shirts "in tribute" to injured Aymeric Laporte.

The players showed off "Laporte" and his number "14" on their backs in the warm-up for their Champions League game away at Dinamo Zagreb.

And even thought they secured a hard-fought 2-0 win out in Croatia, it was their "symbol of solidarity" that caught they eye of footy fans on social media.

And most scoffed that the defender – who had knee surgery last month after breaking down in the Premier League win against Brighton – "wasn't dead".

Sonny Maddox wrote that City are "the weirdest foot team about", while another pointed out that "he's injured, he hasn't passed away".

Thomas Dalglish went with that same line of thought, posting: "You'd think he's dead ffs", with another telling the Premier League champs to "get a grip".

SIX MONTHS OUT

Anthony Penman wrote: "That's actually embarrassing", with Patrick McNicholas adding that it was "a bit weird".

"F***ing cringe", "pathetic", and "tinpot" were some of the other adjectives used to describe it.

Manchester City’s £57 million centre-back had surgery on a meniscus problem in his knee during the last international break.

He has been ruled out initially for the rest of the calendar year – but the 25-year-old's manager at the Etihad is worried it could be longer.

Asked how long he will be out, Pep Guardiola said: “Long – five or six months. January or February maybe.  Next year for sure.”

Fellow defender John Stones is also out injured, meaning blundering Nicolas Otamendi is the only fit senior centre-half.

Fernandinho has been playing there, but it will only heighten the belief that Guardiola should have replaced Vincent Kompany in the summer.

You’d think he’s dead ffs
