On the day of its highly anticipated launch, #FixCareerMode was trending worldwide on Twitter, with many of the criticisms levelled at the AI opposition.
Screenshots showed the likes of Brighton and Norwich at the top of the table while champions Manchester City were stuck in the relegation zone.
This was down to a bug where the best teams in career mode were fielding weakened line-ups for some fixtures, with Pep Guardiola acting unlike his real-life counterpart with a commitment to youth.
Despite a positive critical reception, many fans have shared their opinions on Metacritic and were damning in their assessment.
At the time of writing, FIFA 20 has a measly 1.3/10 user rating from 617 gamers with one writing: "I expected NOTHING this year. And you still **** it up EA."
Another said: "This is the WORST state I've EVER seen a game being released in. Career Mode is beyond destroyed. You treat loyal customers for over 20 years time like total ****. 0/10."
A third added: "What the **** is EA doing?? It just give us exactly the same game every year with a new number. I am gonna stop supporting FIFA and go for PES from this year."
"They’ve not only managed to promise stuff they did not deliver, they even managed to break stuff that worked. #FixCareerMode", a fourth said.
