MANCHESTER UNITED are eyeing Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson as part of their new transfer strategy to recruit young, British players.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is already mulling over moves for James Maddison and Jadon Sancho as he continues his homegrown revolution.

But Wilson, 27, is the key striking target having been involved in 26 goals already since the the start of 2018-19 – including 17 goals.

Only Manchester City star Raheem Sterling has more goal involvements – with 32.

Wilson's tally is six more than Marcus Rashford – who's scored 13 goals and added seven assists since the start of last season.

Solskjaer is also reported to be in the market for Newcastle star Sean Longstaff and Stoke's Nathan Collins.

YOUTH REVOLUTION

Old Trafford chiefs already splurged on British stars Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James this summer.

Wilson is thought be valued at anywhere between £30m and £40m – while Maddison and Sancho could cost a combined £200m.

While United are eyeing an English feast – club legend Gary Neville has demanded they create an all-French "spine", by signing Raphael Varane, N'Golo Kante and Kylian Mbappe.

But United are willing to go without any new faces in January in order to save their pennies for a big summer splurge.

Neville told Sky Sports: "Manchester United, somehow, have got to find a spine.

"Look at Liverpool. Fabinho, Alisson, Virgil van Dijk, Roberto Firmino… unbelievable players, same with Manchester City's spine."

When quizzed on Twitter as to who would be the perfect building blocks for United, Neville replied: "Varane, Kante and Mbappe."
