Javi Gracia facing Watford sack as West Ham defeat leaves them pointless at bottom of Premier League

JAVI GRACIA could pay the price for Watford's miserable start to the season by being sacked.

The Hornets crashed to a 3-1 defeat at home to West Ham on Saturday to leave Gracia sweating over his future.

That loss left the club rooted to the foot of the Premier League having failed to collect a point at all.

And the Mail on Sunday suggest Watford owners, the Pozzi family, are considering whether the 49-year-old is the right man to stay in charge.

Gracia is less than a year into four-and-half-year deal at Vicarage Road signed last November.

And having led the club to the FA Cup final on top of a mid-table finish in the Premier League last season, the doubts may be hard to understand.

But there is concern that the early form the side showed under his leadership has started to fall away, going back as far as last season.

DEEP ROOTED

Watford lost their final four matches of the season in all competitions, including the 6-0 Cup Final defeat to Manchester City – meaning a losing run of 7 consecutive games.

And they only took seven points from their final eight matches of the last campaign – with the two wins on that run coming against the dismal relegation fodder of Huddersfield and Fulham.

So the concern is that there is a more deep-rooted problem around the squad than just losing three games this season.

The wider belief is that Watford have more than enough quality not to be involved in a relegation battle.

But their three defeats have been against sides they would have hoped to have taken some points from in the shape of the Hammers, Brighton and Everton.

It means that three points next weekend against Newcastle could be vital to Gracia's chances of staying in the job.

Because the two matches that follow are against Arsenal and Manchester City, and the Hornets want to avoid going into late September with few points on the board.
