Liverpool face Tranmere in pre-season with Rovers mad Mike Dean as the ref – but Reds storm to 6-0 win

TWO months ago referee Mike Dean was celebrating wildly on the terraces watching his beloved Tranmere reach the League Two play-off final.

But tonight he was back to the day job as he refereed a pre-season friendly involving Liverpool – against Tranmere!

And Dean might have found it hard watching – the Reds trounced his team 6-0 at Prenton Park.

But at least Dean's boys can look forward to competing in League One this season – they beat Newport County in the last second of extra-time in the League Two play-off final in May.

Liverpool were 1-0 up after just six minutes when Nathaniel Clyne netted.

It was 3-0 at half-time as rookie Rhian Brewster notched twice.

KLOPP'S SIDE SMASH IT

The second half went the same way, sadly for Dean and Tranmere.

Curtis Jones, Divock Origi and Bobby Duncan put Jurgen Klopp's European champs six goals to the good against their near-neighbours.

And that's how it stayed in front of a bumper crowd in Tranmere.

Liverpool's next game will be against a team in an even lower league than Tranmere this season – Bradford.
