Gareth Bale’s future up in the air as Zidane leaves him on the bench for Real Madrid’s final game of the season

ZINEDINE ZIDANE has admitted that Gareth Bale does not fit in with his current Real Madrid side.

The winger continues to be linked with a move out of the Bernabeu this summer after a miserable season.

Bale, 29, was left on the bench for the final game of the season – a poor 2-0 defeat to Real Betis that saw Los Blancos players booed and whistled by home fans.

And Zidane later revealed that he had no idea where Bale will end up next season.

He said: "We will see [if Bale continues].

"I don't know what will happen, truthfully.

"I have counted on other players lately, that is clear for my part.

"If I had another change today, the same would have happened.

"I have to look at the day to day and make decisions.

"And when there is something I do not like, or does not fit for me, I must do what I think best.

"It might be difficult for the player who has won a lot here, but the day to day is the day to day."

Bale was supposed to have a breakout season after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo last summer but has had one of the worst campaigns of his career.

He scored only 14 goals in all competitions as Real Madrid went through Julen Lopetegui, Santiago Solario and now Zidane as manager.

Real also crashed out of the Champions League to Ajax and finished 19 points behind bitter rivals Barcelona.

Bale has won the Champions League four times, La Liga once and the Copa del Rey in six years in Spain.
