Liverpool ‘desperate to rush through Divock Origi contract extension’ after Belgian’s Barcelona heroics

LIVERPOOL are desperate to tie Champions League hero Divock Origi down to a new deal, according to reports.

The Belgian striker scored the crucial goals against Barcelona earlier this month that sent Jurgen Klopp's side into the European final.

And, according to Belgian newspaper HLN, Liverpool are keen to get a contract extension sorted as other clubs begin to circle around the 24-year-old.

Origi's performance at Anfield is said to have pricked the interest of clubs across Europe.

But the former Lille striker is considering Liverpool's offer given the lack of game time he was afforded last season.

Origi started just four of 38 Premier League games last season as the Reds finished runner-up to Manchester City.

And Origi is aware that is unlikely to change with Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino ahead of him in the pecking order.

An improved pay packet is likely to be a way for Liverpool to retain the services of Origi, currently on £61,000-a-week.

Origi moved to Anfield in 2014 from Lille, going back on loan to the Ligue 1 side as well as spending a year at Wolfsburg.

This campaign, he has scored six goals including three in the Premier League and two in that historic game against Barcelona.
