Watford outcast Sebastian Prodl blasts boss Javi Gracia and drops hint he’ll leave this summer

WATFORD defender Sebastian Prodl says his career is being “splattered” by Javi Gracia and hints that he will have to leave if the manager stays beyond this season.

Austrian international Prodl, 31, has made just one substitute’s appearance in the Premier League all season plus one Carabao Cup match.

And he believes that his lack of action is not solely down to his contribution on the pitch.

“If Gracia stays beyond this summer, and it looks like he will, I’ll have to think about how things will continue because my chances of playing won’t improve,” Prodl told German magazine Kicker.

“I don’t know why I’m not playing. I give my best in training but I don’t even see myself as part of the competition.

“I played under this coach last season so it can’t be for sporting reasons that I’m not in the team.

“I can’t say more than that but the situation is very complicated for me.

“I realise that there is little reason for the coach to change things at the moment but I am not ready to have my career splattered like this.”

With Gracia having led Watford to the FA Cup final and recently signing a new contract to 2023, Prodl knows there is no chance of a managerial change at Vicarage Road this summer.

He says: “It’s too soon to say I want to leave and I haven’t yet given up hope.

“But I am fit and able to play a more important role for a team than I’m currently able to do at Watford.”
