Gerrard sinks Milan again as Liverpool legends win thrilling repeat of 2005 Champions League final classic

STEVEN GERRARD sunk AC Milan in a thrilling repeat of Liverpool's classic 2005 Champions League final – then urged the Reds to pull off an equally-dramatic Premier League title triumph.

The England legend fired a late winner as Liverpool legends beat the Seie A giants 3-2 – 14 years after he netted in Istanbul when the Reds came from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 and win on penalties.

Gerrard said: "It's always a special time to come to Anfield especially when it's full. To play against Milan and get the winner was a special feeling.

"I'm still feeling the pressure, believe me."

And Gerro is just as anxious that Liverpool fend off champions Manchester City to win the Prem.

The 38-year-old said: "I've always got one eye on Anfield. I hope the lads can get us over the line because I'll be the happiest man in the world.

"If they want to welcome us to the San Siro I'm always game, but right now we have our noses in front!"

It was Gerrard's scoring header on 54 minutes that sparked a quickfire treble from Liverpool in their stunning 2005 comeback.

Vladimir Smicer and Xabi Alonso pulled the Reds level by the hour mark before a 3-2 shootout win.

And today's Anfield re-run was just as dramatic as this time Liverpool thwarted a Milan fightback.

Robbie Fowler showed his old poaching skills to finish off Glen Johnson's cross midway through the first half, before Djibril Cisse clinically doubled the Reds' lead.

But Italy legend Andrea Pirlo curved home a trademark free-kick and Guiseppe Pancaro curled Milan level from distance near the end.

As of old, though, Gerrard took responsibility, weaving through to drill a clincher into the bottom corner.

Liverpool keeper Jerzy Dudek had earlier delighted fans – by popping into the crowd to make a young disabled supporter’s day when he went to retrieve the ball

The Pole grabbed the opportunity to have an impromptu game of catch with the wheelchair-user behind the goal.

Dudek swapped throws with the youngster, whose face beamed with a huge smile as he hurled the ball back and looked around to take the applause.

That summed up a memorable afternoon on and off the field.

But for Gerrard the pressure will soon be back on.

In Gerro's debut season as a manager, his Rangers side are second in the Scottish Premiership – but ten points behind Celtic.
