MIKEY GARCIA is on a mission to prove he is the best fighter on the planet – and plans to showcase this with an upset victory over Errol Spence Jr.
WBC lightweight champion Garcia jumps 17lb on Saturday when he challenges IBF welterweight king Spence at the Dallas Cowboys AT&T stadium in Dallas.

Despite jumping two weight divisions, Garcia, 31, told SunSport a victory over the “feared” Spence, 29, will cement his position as the best fighter on the planet.
Garcia said: "This is to make history, and I think this fight will show everybody that I am the best and that is why I am doing it.
"If I wanted to make a big splash and a big name for myself I needed to go for the best out there and Errol Spence is the man right now at welterweight.
"He’s considered as the most feared man in the division, he has 21 knockouts in 24 victories, he’s a big threat and risk, so to get all the credit and recognition I need to defeat this man.

"I want to show everybody I’m not afraid of anyone and I am very capable of fighting the best and that’s why I chose him.
"Overall most people will likely define the winner as the No1 pound-for-pound.
"But that’s not the goal for me – the goal is to just win this fight and become a five-division world champion and make history for my own legacy."
Garcia is a four-weight world champion, having began his career at 126lb winning titles at featherweight, super-feather, lightweight and most recently super-lightweight.

The winner of Saturday night’s main-event will not be short of future opponents at 147lb, with Terence Crawford, Manny Pacquiao, Keith Thurman and Shawn Porter all reigning as champions.
But for Garcia, he acknowledges the unique position he finds himself in, revealing he could fight all across the board from lightweight up to welterweight.
Garcia said: “I don’t think the weight will slow me down, I’m also not trying to be huge and heavy, I wanted to gain enough to make it to the welterweight limit.
“I can stay at 147 and compete here – or maybe I come down and campaign at a lighter division at 140, or even possibly down at lightweight where I’m currently champion.

“I’ll have a lot of options and that’s what I like about my position, I can fluctuate up and down in weight and I can chose the most attractive opponent there is.
“I’m fighting nothing but undefeated champions, in their prime I’m not waiting for fighters to come into a decline or come off losses.
“I’m fighting unbeaten champions back-to-back at different weight classes, something no other fighter is doing and that’s something I’m excited about.”
Quite possibly the biggest showdown the Californian could find himself in is a unification bout with WBA lightweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko, who is also widely regarded at the P4P king.

But Lomachenko is promoted by Top Rank, the same company who Garcia feuded with in 2014 and was forced to spend two and a half years sidelined amid a contract dispute.
However, the unbeaten the 31-year-old is still hopeful the bonafide super-fight can happen down the road – but warned he won't "sit around and wait” for Lomachenko.
Garcia added: “I would love a fight with Lomachenko, I think it’s the most exciting fight in the lighter division, at lightweight it would be a tremendous fight.
“But knowing the promotion he is with and how they guide their fighters it seems like they already have their year filled up with potential fights for him.

“He’s fighting Anthony Crolla next and after that he’ll likely fight Richard Commey and it seems they already have scheduled fights in the works for him.
“I’m not going to sit and wait my turn, I’m not someone who’s going to sit around and wait until they decide it’s time – I want to move on with my career.
“If it can be done, then great, if not, then I’m going onto bigger and better things."
