A hamstring injury saw him miss eight consecutive games until he returned for the Premier League win at Newcastle.

Sanchez then started the FA Cup third round success against Reading but picked up a thigh problem which ruled him out for the 1-0 victory against Tottenham.

Solskjaer has indicated that the ex-Barcelona and Arsenal forward refused to be substituted at halt-time having suffered the knock before eventually being replaced by Marcus Rashford after 64 minutes.

He told the media: "You have to ask him, a player loves to play football, doesn't matter who you are and he's been hindered by injury.
