Sarri hell-bent on Higuain transfer to Chelsea because he’s a ‘goal machine who will keep scoring until he dies’

MAURIZIO SARRI is hell-bent on signing Gonzalo Higuain because "he'll keep scoring goals until the day he dies".

Higuain scored a record 36 Serie A goals under Sarri at Napoli in 2016 and the Italian hopes he can fix his striker crisis at Chelsea.

In October, the Blues boss said: "I miss Higuain a great deal. I miss him because he’ll keep scoring goals until the day he dies. He is a goal machine, a systematic and automatic jackpot."

Higuain, 31, left Napoli for Juventus for £75million in the summer of 2016 after helping Sarri's side finish second.

Sarri added: "All I can say is that I feel Gonzalo left Napoli too soon.

"If he had stayed for another season, I think we could’ve been in a condition to win.

"Higuain was a part of the fantastic mechanism we created, we understood each other so well.

"It was perfect synchronicity and the regrets will probably stick with us."

Chelsea have agreed a six-month loan deal to sign Higuain.

The striker has spent the first half of the season on loan from Juve at AC Milan.

It is understood Chelsea will be obliged to extend the loan for a full second season if he hits certain targets.

He will have goal scoring and team performance targets that if they are hit by the end of May, Chelsea will have to extend the loan until 2020.

Juventus want to sell Higuain to Chelsea for £32million, but the Blues prefer a loan arrangement.

However Chelsea will have an option to buy him at that price in the summer window.

Sarri's men will play the forward's £170,000-a-week wages for his loan period.

Juventus are expected to formally confirm the agreement to end Higuain's loan spell with Milan and start a new one at Chelsea by the end of the week.

The striker – who has 290 goals from 578 games for River Plate, Real Madrid, Napoli, Juventus and AC Milan – will then fly to London for a medical.

Fans are already looking forward to their potential new-look forward line of Triple H – Eden Hazard, Higuain and Callum Hudson-Odoi – next season.
