MANCHESTER UNITED dropped more points in another drab draw at Southampton.

United's lack of quality was on show all afternoon at St Mary's and were two down inside 20 minutes.

But Romelu Lukaku scored his first goal in 12 games and Ander Herrera with his first of the campaign rescued a point for Jose Mourinho's lacklustre men.

David De Gea

Left with no chance for Southampton’s opening two goals. Had little else to do between the sticks but was called into action when required.

Scott McTominay

Nervy performance in defence. Was given a tough task of marking Nathan Redmond and the winger could sense the youngster was struggling at the back.

Not done himself many favours in his quest to be starting more games.

Phil Jones

Vital block to deny Martins early in the contest but proved why Jose Mourinho is desperate to sign a new central defender. Had a tough task of marshalling both McTominay and Matic.

Nemanja Matic

Was uncomfortable playing in central defence and was caught out of position on more than one occasion.

Luke Shaw

Caught out of position at left-back when Stuart Armstong fired the Saints ahead.

Produced marauding runs down the left to spark United into attack but wasn’t helped by Pogba’s lack of defensive cover. Came off injured in the second half.

Ashley Young

Was often left exposed on the right side playing alongside Scott McTominay.

Struggled to get into the game and wasted a glorious crossing opportunity with United on the attack.

Fans must be wondering why he is set to sign a new contract.

Ander Herrera

Produced a moment of quality to bring United level.

A brilliant back-heel had the better of McCarthy but was asked to play a more attacking role and looked lost in passages of the game.

Paul Pogba

Played on the left of a midfield three, spent most of the match trotting around the pitch looking disinterested.

Cheaply gave away possession countless times and was lucky to remain on the pitch with his performance.

Marouane Fellaini

Failed to show why he should be starting games for United. Took an early booking for an arm to the face and looked like a walking red card.

Marcus Rashford

Took down Lemina to concede the free-kick that led to Southampton’s second goal.

Redeemed himself with two excellent assists to bring United back into the game. Showed why he should be starting.

Romelu Lukaku

Ended his 12-game goal drought with a well-taken goal to bring United back into the contest.

His first touch evaded him on countless occasions and he drifted out of the game.
